St Columba’s have recently committed to the Care Inspectorate initiative- CAPA( Care about physical activity) and have implemented this in the home. The aim is to improve residents physical and mental well-being through promoting independence and enabling them to increase their level of physical activity. The residents have been taking small steps towards a healthier, fitter lifestyle by being able to make their own tea, setting tables, washing, doing dishes, dusting and swimming, participating in gentle exercise classes and walking. Residents are enjoying being more involved and are participating in more day to day tasks to keep them active too.

Acts of Kindness at St Columbas Care Home
Acts of kindness for all at St Columba’s Care Home:
The Seaway chippie in Monifieth kindly donated free chips to all staff and residents this week to make them smile during this difficult time. As you can see they all happily tucked in to their chips at teatime. Big thanks to the guys at The Seaway for being so kind and thinking of us all.
Priority Care Directors also treated staff to a whole host of free goodies in the home for us which gave the staff a huge morale boost. They wanted to extend their thanks to us all with these items and even brought in extra supplies of toilet rolls for all the staff to take home. Thanks so much from all of us here, it has been great to see everyone pull together and has made us feel really appreciated.

A busy Christmas at St Columba’s!
Everyone had a great time over the festive period. Staff, residents and relatives enjoyed our Xmas Fayre on 7th Dec which raised over £300 for the comfort fund. We were all entertained throughout the two Xmas parties and Hogmanay by Bob the Music Man, who got everyone up dancing. Santa visited, with presents for the residents and kids who visited.

St Columbas – Retirement
Priority Staff member Susan Scott has retired after 19 years in St Columba’s Care Home. Susan started work in the home as a care assistant, then progressed to Senior Care assistant and remained a valuable member of the care team for many years. Latterly, Susan decided to work in the laundry until her retirement. A surprise retirement party was organised for Susan by staff who presented her with flowers, wine and vouchers. All staff enjoyed saying farewell to Susan over a buffet and drinks in the home. Susan will be greatly missed but we all wish her all the best for the future!
