    Magdalen House, Housing Care and Support Service in Dundee is a service providing a range of person centred services to adults with a learning disability which include housing support, care at home and social care.

    We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Senior Support Workers to join our team. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to use your initiative and work confidently in order to ensure individuals and resources are fully supported.

    You will be expected to actively participate as part of a team offering a wide range of opportunities to service users in order to help them achieve their potential.

    Day Shift vacancies - 12 Hour shifts, 4 shifts per week 8-8

    This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made.


    Job Purpose

    To lead a team to provide support to Priority Care Group’s service user in line with the Organisations Philosophy and aims. To provide a high quality, reliable support service to enable service user to develop individualised person centred support plans in order for them to achieve positive outcomes whilst promoting independence and choice.

    Support and responsibilities required:

    To organise the work of the support team so that service users receive the right support at the time and level agreed

    To provide direction to support workers appropriate to their level and experience

    Monitor the performance and promote the development of support workers in the team, providing regular supervision and appraisal, observing their practice and coaching them to develop new skills

    Actively support service manager to develop and implement plans to achieve and sustain high standards within the service

    Ensure that service manager receives such information concerning the welfare of service users supported and the performance of employees that they require in order to fulfil their responsibilities

    Supervise and monitor the proper and effective use of the financial and other resources of the organisation

    All actions will demonstrate respect for the rights of the service users supported and for their decisions and choices

    Offer guidance and advice to service users where it is in their best interest

    Promote independence and life skills in accordance with individualised support plans and to enhance inclusion in the community

    Provide support to service users with regards to personal budgeting ensuring best value at all times

    Take steps to find out each service users preferred method of communication, listening to them and encouraging their communication

    Support service users with personal care, continence requirements, health and medication, manual handling, preparing meals as well as nutritional requirements, handling personal possessions and shopping

    Coach service users to develop new skills and recognise and use their talents

    Support service users to achieve their personal outcomes

    Ensure service users dignity and privacy is respected and maintained at all times

    Support service users to maintain important relationships which may require intervention to help resolve conflicts

    Help service users to generate solutions to the problems they face, assisting them to find and userelevant resources and information

    Organise and participate in outcome focussed, person centred reviews involving service users at each stage of the process

    Ensure service users are at the centre of their own support

    Connect service users in the organisation with others with whom they have shared interests and ideas

    Encourage service users to value work, supporting them to find and maintain employment

    Promote service users individuality and where necessary, advocate on their behalf

    Encourage and support service users to exercise all of their rights, responsibilities and obligations as citizens

    Take appropriate action to ensure service users supported are safeguarded from abuse

    Assist service users to access services and agencies necessary for maintaining their health and wellbeing

    Participate with service users, encouraging and assisting them to overcome barriers and try new experiences in a safe and supported environment

    Act in a professional manner, keep accurate records, communicate effectively and share information as appropriate

    Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times for all service users

    Undertake any training required in order to perform effectively in role and acknowledge any deficits in knowledge or practice

    Understand and comply with the standards set by the organisation in respect of National Care standards, health, safety, risk assessment and environment

    Act effectively as a team leader and member, co-operating with colleagues and all other people in the best interests of the service user
